This is what "not to do" with vintage cranberry glass. I always thought cranberry glass was actually that colour but I found out the hard way it is not. I picked this really cute vase up at an antique store last week and unpacked it yesterday. It was perfect before I got it. I had some hot soapy water in the sink from cleaning up some other dishes I had bought earlier and thought I would put this vase in the water to soak off the price sticker. I left it there for a while and forgot about it. When I went back hours later I found this vase with the paint all bubbled and it peeled off when I touched it. I don't know if it's because I left it for so long, because of the soap or because there was a bit of Javex in the sink. I won't make that mistake again! I like shabby chic and I am finding there is another common term used... "chippy shabby chic". I think I will still use this vase and call it my chippy shabby chic mistake! Live and Learn..I guess I learned my "something new" today.

  1. Oh Tammy...what a disappointment. I always thought the colour was through the glass, not just a painted on surface. I would have done the same thing...thanks for letting us know. I am enjoying a visit to your blog after you visited mine when I had my giveaway.
    Kind Regards
